Boss Manufacturing Gains ‘the EDGE’ with Kewanee Hospital’s Corporate Wellness Program

July 25, 2012

Boss Manufacturing in Kewanee has joined forces with Kewanee Hospital to roll out a wellness program for employees.  The first component of the program was a “Walk With the Pros” wellness challenge, in which participating employees were challenged to walk the distance to their favorite sports stadium over the course of ten weeks.  52 employees participated in the first challenge, walking a total of 24 million steps, or 12,000 miles.

The winners of Boss Manufacturing’s first challenge were Vicki Gibson, 1st place and Jamie Allen, 2nd place.  Gibson works at the Boss Distribution Center in Kewanee and walked 641 miles in 10 weeks.  Allen works at the Boss office in Kewanee as Industrial Sales Representative, and walked 510 miles.

“The competitions have worked really well for Kewanee Hospital employees, and we hope the same for other businesses in our community,” stated Lori Christiansen, Director of Rehabilitation Services at the Hospital.  “The challenges promote team-work and provide self-made support groups.  The participants have fun learning new ways to exercise and sharing nutrition tips.”

The goal of Kewanee Hospital and other participating corporations (including Boss Manufacturing and Peoples National Bank) is to increase the overall health status of employees, giving them the opportunity to lead a healthier, longer life.
