Since early this Spring, Michael Ahearn, M.D., Ahearn & Associates, has been admitting inpatients to be cared for by the Hospitalists at Kewanee Hospital. When patients of Dr. Ahearn's, or any other physicians utilizing the Hospitalist Program, are admitted to Kewanee Hospital, they will be cared for by Dr. Saif Shah or Dr. Yaimet Bucknor, Hospitalists on the Med-Surg-Peds-Swing and Critical Care Unit. Drs. Shah & Bucknor work cooperatively with the patients' family physicians, providing regular patient updates and copies of discharge reports. Th Hospitalist process ensures everyone on the health care team is well informed of patient status. When patients are discharged from Kewanee Hospital, they return to the care of their primary physician.
“I feel confident in the abilities of the Hospitalists to care for my patients,” Ahearn stated. “I have been extremely impressed with both Drs. Shah and Bucknor.”
Drs. Shah and Bucknor are available throughout the day and night during their shift, responding to urgent patient needs within minutes. They are available to order tests and view results in real time, and are generally available at any time to assist the nursing staff with questions or problems involving hospitalized patients.
“This is a great opportunity for Kewanee Hospital and Dr. Ahearn to partner in caring for the patients in our community,” added Jennifer Junis, Chief Nursing Officer at Kewanee Hospital. “Everyone benefits from the quality of care provided when we can work together as a team.”
Patients or community members are welcome to contact the Hospital at (309) 852-7500 with questions about the Hospitalist program. Drs. Shah and Bucknor are employed by Hospital Care Consultants and contracted to provide care at Kewanee Hospital on a full-time basis.
