KH 5K a Success!

August 17, 2011

Fifty-eight walkers and runners gathered at Windmont Park on Thursday, August 11th for Kewanee Hospital’s first ever 5K event.  The race was coordinated by the Hospital’s Wellness Team as a culmination of a 12-week Step-by-Step Employee Wellness Challenge.  Many of the 5K participants had been working toward a goal of completing a 5K walk or run over the course of the challenge.

Peoples’ National Bank (PNB) has also been enhancing employee wellness through Kewanee Hospital Rehabilitation Services’ “Gain the Edge” Wellness Program.  Many bank employees and their family members joined the Hospital staff and their families for the event.  The race also served as a wrap-up for the bank’s recent wellness challenges.

The Overall Winner of the 5K was Jill Schueneman-Heartt, RN in Kewanee Hospital’s Emergency Department.  Preston Becker, Kewanee Hospital’s Chief Financial Officer, received Top Male honors.  First-place finisher for PNB was Jessie Church, who finished 3rd overall.  Following the race, participants enjoyed cold drinks and cool-down time at Windmont Park, while co-workers walked laps around the lake.

The 5K was implemented by hospital staff members Lori Christiansen, Director of Rehabilitation Services; Kim Becker, Physical Therapy Assistant; and Ian Swindler, Certified Athletic Trainer.  Hospital volunteers included Mike O’Neill, Emily Renfroe, Deb Schaecher, Laura Costenson, Holly & Jason Hicks, Lou Padilla, Darcy & Ashley Holtschult, and Mariah Blodgett.
