Kewanee Hospital recently celebrated its one-year anniversary of offering digital mammograms to the women in our community. The Hologic™ Selenia Dimensions™ digital mammography machine, an asset to the fully-digital Radiology Department, offers the same type of imaging as the Susan G. Komen Center for Breast Health, with the same radiologists reading those images.
“Kewanee Hospital is very dear to me and the Radiology staff is very competent and qualified,” stated Faith Steimle, a patient who recently had her annual mammogram at Kewanee Hospital. “I am really thankful for the new digital mammography. The exam is almost pain-free and requires very little time.”
In addition to offering digital mammograms, Kewanee Hospital offers women the MammoPad breast cushion, which dramatically decreases the pain some women experience during a mammogram. MammoPad is placed on the compression plates of the mammography device to provide a softer, warmer mammogram and is offered free of charge to every patient.
“Combining the MammoPad with our state-of-the-art machine, Kewanee Hospital offers what we call a ‘high-tech, soft touch’ mammography experience for women,” stated Emily Renfroe, Director of Radiology at Kewanee Hospital.
After evaluating the various options for introducing digital mammography to our community, Kewanee Hospital purchased the Selenia Dimensions based on its excellent image quality, patient safety and a number of unique features that distinguish it from other digital systems. Selenia Dimensions offers exceptional diagnostic tools for the radiologists thatsupport more confident diagnoses and saves valuable time, allowing more efficient results.
“I strongly encourage everyone, if you haven't already had your mammogram this year, to call Kewanee Hospital and schedule your appointment,” Steimle added. “Please don't believe you have to go somewhere else for your mammogram or any other services when Kewanee Hospital offers the convenience of being right here in this area.”
