KH Golf Outing Surpasses Fundraising Expectations

Kewanee Hospital’s 9th Annual William Lininger Golf Classic once again raised over $30,000 as 27 foursomes hit the links at the Kewanee Dunes in early June.  The afternoon’s festivities included lunch and a 4-person team preferred ball tournament with an appetizer social, awards ceremony and silent auction to follow.  The outing, which annually memorializes the late William Lininger (long time member of the Hospital’s  Board of Trustees), also paid tribute to the late Jim Burns for his dedication to the Business Relations Committee and support of the Hospital’s Development Council.

Before and after golfing, participants had the opportunity to bid on silent auction items including Cubs and Cardinals tickets, a night’s stay at the Chestnut Street Inn, an American Girl doll, a number of gift baskets, and Zac Brown Band concert tickets.  The silent auction raised nearly $1700.  Each player received a souvenir golf ball donated by Emergency Physicians Staffing Solutions, the emergency medicine physicians who provide coverage in Kewanee Hospital’s Emergency Department.  Prizes were also awarded for hole events, as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the overall event.

The 1st Place team consisted of Matt Costenson, Don VanDeRostyne, Jeremiah Brueghman and Jason Sturtevant, who each received a ribeye steak platter donated by Save-A-Lot, a bottle of wine donated by Boswell Distributing, and a set of steak knives donated by Union Federal Savings & Loan Association.  The 2nd Place team – Dave Boswell, Frank Tocha, Mike Kirkham and Mike Adams – each received gift certificates for four rounds of golf with carts donated by The Kewanee Dunes and a sleeve of golf balls donated by MemData.  The 3rd Place team, Union Federal Savings & Loan Association of Kewanee - Craig Gustafson, Mike Fulton, Tom Martineau, and Chad Gustafson, received four one-hour massages donated by Kewanee Hospital Rehabilitation Services.

Winner of the 50/50 Raffle was Fletcher Ford of Regional Media, who generously donated his earnings back to Kewanee Hospital.  Dr. Jim Hubler, Emergency Physicians Staffing Solutions, was the winner of the driver raffle, winning a driver donated by Ken & Bonnie Dison.  Mark Rewerts, Kewanee Banking Center, was the winner of the Putting Contest, taking home an Odyssey White Hot putter donated by Union Federal Savings & Loan.

Platinum Sponsors at the $2000 level included Central Illinois Radiological Associates, Emergency Physicians Staffing Solutions, Drinker Biddle & Reath and Regional Media.  Gold Sponsors at the $1000 level included Kleine Equipment and CTA Fabrications/Wager Lawn Care.  The Appetizer Social was sponsored by Sullivan Door Company, First Financial Partners, Life Investors Financial Group, and Leezer Agency.  Many area businesses and individuals also contributed as Silver Sponsors ($500), Bronze Sponsors ($200), Cart Sponsors ($50) and Friendship Sponsors ($25).

Funds raised at the annual event are used to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment and assist with technological updates at Kewanee Hospital.  The 10th annual event is scheduled for Monday, June 4, 2012.
