Kewanee Hospital’s Community Relations Committee will once again offer a free Suicide Prevention workshop this summer. SuicideTALK, an exploration in suicide awareness, will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. in the East/West Conference Room at Kewanee Hospital. A SuicideTALK workshop was held last April, and this course will serve as a refresher for past attendees. New guests are encouraged to attend, including educators, counselors, clergy, parents, and members of the community.
The SuicideTALK workshop will be facilitated by certified LivingWORKS trainer Cheryl Robinson, who serves as Director of Curriculum & Instruction in the Sterling School District.
"I lost my son Patrick to suicide 6 years ago, which is why the suicide trainings are so important to me,” Robinson said. “The interactive workshops discuss openly the stigma surrounding the topic of suicide and focuses on the question ‘should we talk about suicide?’”
The workshop helps participants better understand how personal and community beliefs about suicide affect suicide stigma and safety.
“The program guided participants through the steps that can help prevent suicide,” said Kristin Keane, Director of Marketing & Development at Kewanee Hospital. “Cheryl’s personal experience and her expertise can help local participants protect, preserve and promote life in a suicide-safer community.”
Dinner and resource materials will be provided. CPDUs will be offered to educators in attendance. Reservations may be made by calling 309-852-7864 or by e-mailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
