Kewanee Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Katherine (Katie) Adell, Registered Dietitian (RD) to the staff. She will be providing patients and the community with a variety of nutritional education and services. Adell’s responsibilities will include providing nutrition care to patients in the acute setting, as well as meeting with individuals on an outpatient basis.
As identified by the Institute of Medicine, registered dietitians (RDs) are health care professionals with standardized education, clinical training, continuing education, and national credentialing requirements necessary to be providers of nutrition therapy.
When working with patients, Adell will complete nutrition assessments, determining the nutrition diagnosis, implementing a nutrition intervention, and evaluating the patient progress. This process is referred to as the Nutrition Care Process and can be done in the inpatient and outpatient settings. RDs also provide nutrition education and counseling for chronic conditions or disease prevention.
“The addition of a full-time dietitian is exciting both for patients at Kewanee Hospital and for our community,” stated Kim Peterson-Stiegelmeyer, Director of the Family Health Clinic. “With diet-associated health conditions on the rise, Katie’s expertise will be a valuable resource. She is a welcome addition to our staff.”
Adell’s office is located in Kewanee Hospital’s Family Health Clinic. For more information or to schedule an appointment call 309-852-7732.
